Information for Good Beginnings Participants

PURPOSE

This is a reimbursement bursary for those individuals that have successfully completed the course and met the financial criteria.

The Early Childhood Education and Care bursary program administered by BC Family Child Care Association, with funding originally from the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

The goal of this bursary program is to assist students who are pursuing a career in early childhood education and care. This includes:

  • Good Beginnings: Professional Development for Family Child Care Providers course at recognized educational institutions or organizations/facilitators.

  • The One Year Family Child Care Certificate Program at one of the recognized educational institutions.

  • Early Childhood Education programs at private institutions (listed)

Note: Early Childhood Education students attending public institutions must apply to ECEBC at www.ecebc.ca

This bursary is an award that is granted on the basis of financial need. Bursaries are non-repayable awards except when non-compliance or misrepresentation occurs.

APPLICATION FORMS

The September – December bursary term is now closed, please check back the 1st of April for the January – April bursary term. Thank You.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • You are a permanent resident of BC, Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.

  • You are not delinquent or in default of a BC Student loan.

  • You demonstrate financial need in your application.

  • You can demonstrate successful completion of the Good Beginnings course.

You are not eligible if:

  • You do not meet the deadline for submissions of all required documentation.

  • You withdraw from and/or do not achieve a completion certificate.

  • You are not taking the course from a recognized educational institution/organization or facilitator.

BURSARY AWARDS

  • Good Beginnings course bursary amounts will be 75% of paid tuition to a maximum of $200 per course.

  • Participants may only claim for a bursary once per course.

  • Participants may only claim for a bursary where they can demonstrate that they have paid for the course.

  • Cheques will be issued upon completion of the review process.

  • Submit only one application per person.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Ensure that your application is postmarked by:

    • January 30th for courses completed between September 1st and December 31st

    • May 30th for courses completed between January 1st and April 31st

    • September 30th for courses completed between May 1st and August 30th 

  • Applicants are responsible to keep a copy of all material submitted (do not submit originals)

  • Applications can only be submitted for courses taken in the previous 4 months; no late submissions will be accepted.

  • Submissions must include:

    • BCFCCA application form (all information completed)

    • Copy of your official certificate of completion for the Good Beginnings course.

    • Copy of your proof of payment for the course which you are applying.

    • Proof of residency may be requested.

Note: No material will be returned, please submit only copies and keep a copy of your application for your records.
