VCFCCA Workshop - Materials Exploration "Paper"Our task is to help children communicate with the world with all their potentials, strengths and languages, and at the same time to help them overcome any obstacle presented by a culture which tends to impoverish them either by excessive theorizing or by undervaluing their capacity for research and creativity. Children’s timing and rhythms demand the utmost respect. They need adults to stand by them to counter the increasing pressure to make them grow up too fast.
Using the ideas from the Book “Beautiful Stuff”
How do we create curriculum from “found Materials” and thinking differently about what we offer children (cute, fancy, colourful vs. creativity, self-directed, open-ended, problem solving…..)
Using “paper” as the material: we will explore the many possibilities paper offers children and ourselves. What can we do with paper, cut, fold, twist etc. We can apply the knowledge from our paper exploration to any material (wood, clay, wire, water, light……)
Lots of hands on activities and games too!!
!!!!! PLEASE BRING 5 PIECES OF DIFFERENT PAPERS IN A BAGGY !!!!!!!!

ATTENTION CHILD CARE PROVIDERSPlease take the time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of National Child Day on November 20th.
National Child Day has been nationally celebrated since 1993. It commemorates the United Nations’ adoption of two documents centered on children’s rights: the United Nations Declaration of Rights of the Child on November 20, 1959, and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child on November 20, 1989.
Make it a special day and highlight all the wonderful work family child care providers do by:
- Celebrating the day like a birthday party (cake, balloons & signs)
- Talk about the rights of the child (to children and parents)
- Create a gallery of children’s creations and work around children’s rights Collect and/or make a donation for underprivileged children in Canada or abroad.
- Wear a blue ribbon (show support of Canadian children)
- Teach children to stand up for themselves and watch out for others.
